Candle Care: Trim those Wicks!
So wait, it’s possible to burn a candle incorrectly? I mean come on, open, light, enjoy. Right? Well, not so fast. There are some simple ways to make your candle last longer and burn cleaner and more evenly. And it starts with WICK CARE!
FIRST BURN
To prolong your candle's life and get the most bang for your buck and to ensure your candle will continue to melt evenly, burn your new candle for about 2 hours, or until the entire surface has melted.
DREADED BLACK SOOT, EXCESSIVE FLICKERING, SMOKE
Don’t worry, while you may be experiencing some negative energy or struggle in some aspect of your life, it’s not why your candle is putting off black soot. It likely just means that your wick is too long!
You may be worried that you purchased a cheap candle. Or that your candle is giving off chemicals that may be harmful to your family. What’s actually happening is that the flame has been allowed to get too big and is burning off wax and scent oil too quickly.
TRIM THOSE WICKS
It's good practice to trim your wick to 1/8- 1/4" before each burn. Most common candle issues stem from your wick being too long! Signs your wick is too long include:
▪️a large flame with excessive flickering
▪️your wick begins to curl as it burns
▪️an uneven wax pool
▪️your candle is giving off smoke
▪️black soot (wax buildup) gathers around the inside of your candle jar

GENERAL CANDLE SAFETY
An open flame warning label is included on all Rescuewicks products.
▪️Burn for no longer than 3-4 hours at a time.
▪️To prevent fire and serious injury, burn candle within sight.
▪️Keep away from drafts and vibrations.
▪️Keep candles and wax melt apparatuses out of reach of children and pets.
▪️Never burn a candle near anything that can catch fire.
▪️Keep wax free of debris.
▪️Only burn candles on a level, fire resistant surface.
IMPORTANT: Do not burn a candle down to the bottom of the jar, as too much heat with too little wax can cause a jar to shatter.
